Thin

First posted 7th October 2006

These tiny thin flowers were found in a greenhouse section at the Cranbourne Boatnical Gardens. I’m afraid I don’t know the type of plant, but each flower head here was only about 5cm high at this point. They remind me of someone trying to create a shadow puppet of a dog with their hand!

Water Lily

First posted 29th February 2008

In my own small back garden pond (see my ‘nature’ page for more), was this lovely water lily. I was lucky to take the shot when I did, because the next day our new lovely dog, Maggie (mini groodle puppy – see ‘other’ page), thought it looked interesting enough to chew! She loves water and jumps in the pond regularly!

Yellow

Small yellow flower buds.

Flower Balls

First posted 7th October 2007

I’m afraid I don’t know the exact plant species name, but most people call it the snowball flower. Certainly some intersting, ball shaped, short lived flowers that start green and then turn white.

Wysteria

First posted 1st October 2007

The more rare species of wysteria with white flowers instead of purple. This was already growing on our pergola when we bought our house back in 1997. It looks magnificent at this time of year, but only lasts for only about three weeks.

Blossom

First posted 2nd December 2007

Well Spring has sprung here in Melbourne with blossom trees prematurely flowering even at the end of Winter, after many sunny days in the past weeks, and still very little rain.

Succulent Flower

First posted 28th October 2006

Beautiful pink flower on the end of a succulent stem. These succulents are quite popular (and our garden is full of them) as they require very little watering. Water restrictions are in force in many parts of Australia. About four years ago we re did our gardens, took away the lawn, added a day bed, water tolerant plants, screens and it now becomes an ‘outdoor room’ which gets used far more than it would have if the half dead lawn was still around! In fact we are having a bbq today as you look at this!

Bottlebrush

Mini Flowers

Last week this image was selected to go in a calender for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. (To be used internally for staff, not for sale). As I look out my window I see that the flowers are back again just as beautiful this year.

Native Hibiscus

First posted 1st October 2006

A lovely Australian native hibiscus. In flower during Spring and much of Summer with these lovely unique purple flowers. This shot was taken in my mothers lovely garden.

Tulips

First posted 24th September 2006

More from the Tesselaar Tulip Festival today. Rows and rows of beautifully coloured tulips.

Ranuncula

First posted 17th September 2006

Some beautiful Ranuncula I snapped a couple of weeks ago. Similar to the poppy, but with a grander flower in my opinion. It’s a pity they don’t last particularly long. Spring has certainly sprung here in Melbourne, all the trees are in blossom, and new growth is appearing everywhere.

Purple Echium Flower

First posted 10th September 2006

My new weekly entry in ‘Green Thumb Sunday’. A new nature image every Sunday. I took this just last Thursday down on the Williamstown Foreshore. One of my favourite plants, particularly now at the start of Spring when it has these beautiful tall purple spikes. They remind me a little of Marge Simpson! It is an Echium.
