Growth

First posted 3rd April 2007

Close up of new growth on a young Frangipani tree. They have beautiful delicate flowers which smell terrific. Being in Melbourne it is a struggle to keep them looking good, but many people do well, although Queenslanders have a far better time of it.

This is a young fern leaf opening up toward the sun.

Thin

First posted 7th October 2006

These tiny thin flowers were found in a greenhouse section at the Cranbourne Boatnical Gardens. I’m afraid I don’t know the type of plant, but each flower head here was only about 5cm high at this point. They remind me of someone trying to create a shadow puppet of a dog with their hand!

Lake Mokoan

First posted 21st August 2006

Sunset over lake Mokoan, near Wangaratta, three hours north of Melbourne. This lake and many others are particularly dry at the moment, and tight water restrictions are in force.

Between Spotswood and Yarraville is the stony creek backwash, partially under the Westgate bridge. I found this wreck there a few days ago whilst on a stroll.

Moon

First posted 29th August 2007

Just before the lunar eclipse last night, here is the moon above the Westagate Bridge. Unfortunately clouds later spoilt much of the vision for the lunar eclipse from Melbourne, other states fairing much better.

Water Lily

First posted 29th February 2008

In my own small back garden pond (see my ‘nature’ page for more), was this lovely water lily. I was lucky to take the shot when I did, because the next day our new lovely dog, Maggie (mini groodle puppy – see ‘other’ page), thought it looked interesting enough to chew! She loves water and jumps in the pond regularly!

Wysteria

First posted 1st October 2007

The more rare species of wysteria with white flowers instead of purple. This was already growing on our pergola when we bought our house back in 1997. It looks magnificent at this time of year, but only lasts for only about three weeks.
