Where am I?

First posted 1st May 2007

Today is the monthly theme day from ‘Daily City Photoblogs” Today’s theme is to show a photo from your own city which may make visitors think they are in the wrong city. I have posted another shot of Geelong pier (a small city South West of Melbourne) which reminds me a lot of Brighton, England. There are several piers in Brighton, and I’m sure you could see some here at Brighton Daily photo.

On the way down to the beach are these boats all ready for the next days activities. I was at the camp yesterday visiting my son who is having the time of his life.

Clunes Countryside

First posted 2nd June 2007

About 90 minutes North West of Melbourne is the country town of Clunes. Here is a sample of the lovely landscapes you can experience up in the area.  At last the drought seems to be breaking. Great to see the lovely green grass back with us.

Cormorant and Seaplane

First posted 8th May 2007

I’ve shown a seaplane that works from Williamstown before on this site, today though, a different seaplane that works from Geelong, 45 minutes south west of Melbourne. It is run by Bay City planes, and full information can be found at their own website here. I wonder if the cormorant looking on was wishing he could take a flight and save his wings.

First posted 18th April 2007

The Geelong Pier. At the end is an ‘all you can eat restuarant’. Geelong is a small city, 45 mins out of Melbourne, and has a lovely foreshore full of interesting things to do. It makes for a great day trip from Melbourne.

Sheep Hill

First posted 4th April 2007

Half way to Swan Hill on a back road, I came across this small hill completely covered in sheep, thus the title! Take note of the complete lack of grass… who says we’re in a drought!

Flinders

First posted 20th November 2006

Recently had the pleasure of visiting Flinders, a lovely quiet township approx. 100mins South-East of Melbourne. It lies on the tip of the Mornington Peninsula and is popular as a holiday destination. Very natural, very calming, a great spot. This is just one of many vantage points looking out to the lovely seas.

Cathedral

First posted 6th September 2006

Recently I was in Bendigo for three nights. Bendigo is a large country town situated 2 hours North of Melbourne. This is the Sacred Heart Cathedral which fills the horizon from so many different angles. The picture is not completely sharp as I did not have a tripod and it was actually very dark, an hour after sunset. Hopefully, however, this shows how grand the building is as it rises up from the hill upon which it sits. I actually like the dark nature of the shot.

Lake Mokoan

First posted 21st August 2006

Sunset over lake Mokoan, near Wangaratta, three hours north of Melbourne. This lake and many others are particularly dry at the moment, and tight water restrictions are in force.

Year of the lifesaver

First posted 2nd May 2007

2007 in Australia is the year of the lifesaver. These happy chaps can be found only a couple of minutes away from yesterdays post, in Geelong. In fact they are one set of many found all around the small city. Lifesavers do a great job around Australia, and if you ever visit, ensure you say G’day and swim between the flags!
