AC/DC Lane

First posted 5th September 2008

Another of the many interesting laneways in the city of Melbourne. This one is AC/DC lane, which runs off Flinders Lane. At the end is “The Alley Bar” up on the left is “Fifteen“, Jamie Olivers restaurant which was recently burnt in a fire, thus the boarding on the windows. The day after the fire, Chris Cheneys band “The Living End” played here for lucky listerners of a National broadcaster, Triple J. The laneway is, of course named after legndary Australian band AC/DC.

Hawthorn Football Club

First posted 22nd April 2008

Now I have good reason to be a Hawthorn Football club supporter, I was born and raised in Hawthorn until I left home at 19. At the moment Hawks supporters are extra happy with the team having scored five wins out of five games, (there are 22 rounds this year in the Australian Football League – AFL), and are second on the ladder only behind Geelong, (last years winners) this week on percentage. You can become a member of the club by joining here, or purchase great club merchandise here. Todays photo shows their original home in Linda Crescent, Hawthorn. Next Sunday the Hawks play Richmond at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

It’s a great day out for the family. In this photo you can see the newest additions to the park, the six lane aqua racer and “Bonitos Bay”. Take your bathers Mum’s and Dad’s, you’re sure to want to join in. More attractions are opening later in the year, the “River Torrent” sounds great. Full price details at their own site here.

Herring Island

First posted 8th March 2008

About a kilometre down the Yarra river out of the city lies Herring Island. The only way of getting to the island is by this small punt run by Parks Victoria. Quite often the island is home to art exhibitions, housed in their small exhibition space. Details about the current exhibitions can be found here. The punt costs just $2, the exhibition is free or you can give a donation.
