Doorways revisited

First posted 1st November 2009

The themeday for citydaily photobloggers this month is a revisit from one already covered back on the 1st of September 2006. “Doorways“. You can see my 2006 entry including description HERE. It shows the entrance to the Victorian Arts Centre building. Todays shot is vastly different, showing a ‘clapped-out’ car and it’s open doorways having had it’s doors removed. This shot was taken in Bendigo.

Another month, another theme day. City daily photobloggers are all posting photos on the theme of ‘Paths and Pathways’ today. Mine is another shot from the ‘Great Duck Race’ which I showed last Monday (Australia Day) here. “No” signs

First posted 1st July 2008

Another month has gone by and it’s time again for the city daily photobloggers theme day. Today’s theme: “No” signs”. See many more entrants in the theme day here: Click here to view thumbnails for all participants. My shot is from the end of the Flinders pier. Count the number of times it says “No” in the sign. Not once, but at the same time it suggests you do not do partake in at least 10 activities! Damn, I was going to ride my motorbike down the pier whilst drinking beer, chopping trees down to make a fire before flying my plane low over the pier dragging my dog along the beach! Oh well, maybe next time.

Local Corner Shop

First posted 1st June 2008

Street Art

First posted 1st March 2008

As featured in the “Ghost Rider” starring Nicholas Cage and shot in and around Melbourne is Rutledge Lane, just behind the Forum Theatre. More information about the film locations can be found here. Co-incidentally Cindy Lauper appeared on A curent affair in this lane on Thursday the very day I took this photo. (I wonder if I just missed her?) last night The entire lane including walls, bins, pipes, dumpers and more are all completely covered with graffiti. Unfortunately the work over the top of others isn’t always respectful, but the combinations of various art forms is brilliant. There are paintings, stencils, posters, texta drawings and much more. Nicholas Cage must have enjoyed his time in Melbourne, as he is back here now filming a new movie called “Knowing” about an alien race trying to help save the world. Australian casting is underway as we speak, including for two lead children roles. The street art around Melbourne is often registered with the council, as you can find here. I plan to show more street art tomorrow, but today (taking time zones into account) there are many other city daily bloggers posting on this same theme.

Typical Breakfast

First posted 1st August 2007

Theme day for City Daily Bloggers today is “Typical Breakfast”. Now I’m not a big one for breakfast, I’d rather wait and have a bigger brunch or lunch. But what I do like is a lovely cup of coffee. Melbourne has a good coffee culture with many great coffee spots around the city and suburbs.

Red

First posted 1st July 2007

Theme day for City Daily Bloggers today is “Red”. Now I had heaps of options for this one, but have posted them all already!. The most obvious was a sculpture entitled “Red Centre” which you can see here and here, I have also shown a red helicopter here, the lovely red walls of Melbourne Central here and here, bottlebrush flowers here, red drinks recently posted here, and many more. In the end I went for some yummy red frog lollies. Enjoy!

Where am I?

First posted 1st May 2007

Today is the monthly theme day from ‘Daily City Photoblogs” Today’s theme is to show a photo from your own city which may make visitors think they are in the wrong city. I have posted another shot of Geelong pier (a small city South West of Melbourne) which reminds me a lot of Brighton, England. There are several piers in Brighton, and I’m sure you could see some here at Brighton Daily photo.

Letterbox

First posted 1st April 2007

City daily bloggers themeday today : A public letterbox.

Men at work

First posted 1st March 2007

Theme Day : Men at work. I have admired these guys for quite some time now. They have been busy building this wall for at least six months. It lies adjacent to Flemington Racecourse where the Melbourne Cup horse race is held. Not only is it very time consuming, but each stone is laid with a flat surface facing outward. (I have seen others with the rocks just poured in by a bulldozer.) This one is obviously of greater quality and will last for many many years to come. Glad to have such an appropriate theme day to show off their great work!

Waist Down

First posted 1st December 2006

Theme day today…”A picture of someone from the waist down”

Ten-pin bowling girl jumping in anticipation.

Something that is about to disappear soon

First posted 1st November 2006

Timing! Until yesterday I wasn’t particularly happy with my choice for the theme ‘Something that is about to disappear soon’, but then I heard of this new development, so I rushed down on my scooter to get a shot. On the corner of Swanston Street and Victoria Streets in the city is this old Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) building, now owned by RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). Just announced is the development by Grocon (the people who are just finishing the tallest building in Melbourne (the Eureka Tower). I certainly hope they will keep this lovely facade in the development.

Tram with Taxi

First posted 1st October 2006

City Daily Photo theme day, today  - “Taxis”. What’s this ? That’s Not a taxi?! I know, I know, I’ve used some artistic licence and posted a tram instead of a taxi, but let’s face it, Melbourne is more renowned for it’s trams, where it’s taxis are just yellow cars with Taxi written on the top. Anyway, for all the conservatives, I have included a little shot of a taxi in the corner.  This is one of Melbourne’s city circle trams, which are fanatstic for tourists. There is also a very popular restaurant tram ! The ad on the side cost thousands!

Doorways

First posted 1st September 2006

The daily photobloggers have a theme day once a month. Todays theme is ‘doorways’. This is a shot of the Victorian Arts Centre front doors taken just last night. Three theatres are located inside, all of which are underground for better acoustics. The spire above this wonderful entrance can be seen here. The inside of this building is absolutely wonderful as well, with much polished metal, velvet, lush carpets and great light features.
