I posted an image from the Royal Melbourne Show back on the 29th September, but after seeing Edwins' wonderful carnival shots, I wanted to post another. The Melbourne show is well over for this year, but returns again next September school holidays. More information here. |

"Royal Melbourne Show" Friday 29th September 2006 |
As promised, this is where yesterdays beautiful dolls ( sculpture and art) are housed during the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Right in the middle of town at Federation Square. The installation is entitled "Material World", and was the brainchild of Ian Pidd, Alex Sanson and Jessica Wilson for the Fringe Festival. More information can be found here. |
The Melbourne International Arts Festival commences this week and runs until the 28th October. As with every good festival there is also an accompanying Fringe Festival. As part of the Fringe festival this year, there is an installation entitled "Material World", displayed in a small house like structure built from personal belongings. It is located right in the centre of town at Federation Square. I may well show you the house itself tomorrow, but inside are these wonderful dolls. Created by Asylum seekers each with it's own meassage, these dolls are all unique and tell a different story. One simply says "I miss my kids and will never forget them anytime, even in my sleep". More about the Fringe festival and this event can be found here. More about the Arts Festival can be found here. |
The Royal Melbourne Show has been on during these current school holidays. It was originally designed to show your animals and win prizes, and to get small samples of new food products and the like. These days materialism has taken over and it's now a large carnival and the showbags are what most go for. People come home with having spent far too much on bags which include blow-up toys, lollies galore, ridiculous head gear and silly gimmicks that all break within the next few hours. This shot was taken Thursday evening when I took my son (my daughter is going today with a party group). Usually the kids come home hyperactive and the parents come home with a headache... sound like fun? Well actually it is!! Official show website can be found here |

"Poles Apart" Friday 22nd September 2006 |
"Festen" Friday 11th August 2006 |
"Picasso" Friday 4th August 2006 |
Each September in Silvan (one hour East of Melbourne) , the famous Tesselaar family holds a festival. The Tulip festival includes three childrens days. I shot this photo last Tuesday on the first of the three. This is just a very small example of the tulips on display, there are other fields much larger completely full of the bright flowers. These poles were a hit with the kids, allowing them to get hands on in amongst the tulips. More info on the festival can be found here. I expect I will post more on Sunday for my 'nature' day. |
"Festen" by the Melbourne Theatre Co. Until 23rd Sept. |
Picasso. An exhibition at the National Gallery Of Victoria. |
