"Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show" Monday 2nd April 2007
There is a wonderful Pixar exhibition currently being held at ACMI. (The Australian Centre for the Moving Image). It showcases their work over the last 20 years including many great images from "Toy Story", "The Incredibles", Cars", "Finding Nemo", "Ratatouille", "Monsters Inc." and much more. Unfortunately you only have until the 14th October to catch the exhibition. Shown here is Mike from 'Monsters Inc." More information can be found at the ACMI website here. ACMI is located at Federation Square in the middle of Melbourne.
Opening last night was this 'Giant Sky wheel, (a large ferris wheel). It had formerly been located at the Royal Melbourne Show. (You can see my photo on the 'Events' page, post date 29th September and also 27th October 2006. It is now located at Birrarung Marr parklands in the city temporarily until the 16th July 2007. I have taken this shot through the 'Federation bells' sculpture (see also my 'sculpture and art' photo of 14th November 2006. You can also see the Victorian Art Centre spire on the left, the Eureka tower, Federation Square and St Pauls cathedral on the far right. Further information including operating times can be found here.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden show has been on over the last five days. It is a hugely successful event and attracts thousands of visitors every day.It is held in the Carlton gardens here in Melbourne. This is one of the displays, a joint effort between UrbanEco Landscapes and the Asthma Foundation. It was certainly one of the better displays this year, earning a bronze medal and featuring, as usual, indigenous plants and great sculptural elements.
Ghost Writer
FINA

Olafur Eliasson 2

"The Ghost Writer" Friday 30th March 2007
"12th FINA World Championships" Tuesday 20th March 2007
"Olafur Elliason 2 "Friday 16th March 2007
Currently at the George Fairfax Studio, Victorian Arts Centre is the Melbourne Theatre Company play "The ghost writer", written by Ross Mueller. Directed by Julian Meyrick and starring Logie award winner John Wood. It has a strong supporting cast, especially Margaret Harvey, Belinda McClory and Raj Sidhu. Suited well to the intimate studio space the play discusses the death of a small child, played by three different girls (Jessica Evans, Alaeyan Blaufuhs and Virginia Cashmere). The 'ghost' scenes are very moving and leave most of the audience quite emotional at the conclusion. It runs until the 21st April 2007. More details here.
This is Federation square, in the centre of Melbourne. This large screen shows all sorts of events and draws huge crowds to this wonderfully modern space. Currently Melbourne is holding the 12th FINA world championships, (swimming). Whilst we have a lovely venue at Albert park, the suburb where the F1 Grand Prix was just held, this years swimming event is being held at the Rod Laver Arena, (where the Australian Tennis Open is held each year). Centre court has been transformed into a new, temporary in ground pool, dug especially for the championships. It has been named the Susie O'Neill pool after one of our great swimmers. Here, Federation square, I'm sure will again fill with many visitors when the finals are held.
More from the Danish artist, Olafur Eliasson, exhibition at the National Gallery Of Victoria. See yesterdays link for details. Further information about the exhibition can be found at the Gallery website here.

From the Danish artist, Olafur Eliasson, exhibition at the National Gallery Of Victoria. If you liked lego as a child you will be in your element if you able to visit this hands on activity. Full information about the exhibition can be found at the Gallery website here. The exhibition/sculpture is ever changing. Come back tomorrow and I may show you a lovely silhouette shot of the work as well.
As part of Melbourne's annual Moomba Festival, a wonderful event for families is held, the Birdman Rally. It entails people jumping, diving or flying from a platform in ridiculous rigs with the intention of travelling as far as they can before plunging into the Yarra. As you can see it is mostly entertainment value and the large crowds today certainly had a great time. This lady in pink only flew a few metres but had great fun doing so! More information about Moomba can be found here.
As promised, more from the Australian 2007 Wakeboarding Championships at Docklands. This morning it was the women's turn. More information about the event can be found here

Just come back from Docklands where the Australian 2007 Wakeboarding Championships are being held. I may well indeed post further shots as they are on all week. The tricks have all sorts of names which I don't understand, but it was certainly made to look easy down there this morning. More information about the event can be found here.
Recent TRYathlon for kids at St Kilda.
