Dream Festival
"Dream Festival" Monday 6th October 2008
Over the last weekend the city of Melbourne has presented 'The Dream Festival'. It was held at Birrarung Marr & the Alexandra gardens alongside the Yarra. The festival of art and music had music stages, these dream people, and floating 'blow-up' sculpture some of which I will show over the next couple of days.

Fly Over
"Art Deco" Thursday 21st August 2008
"Beijing Olympics" Saturday 9th August 2008
"Fly Over" Friday 25th April 2008
The National Gallery of Victoria in St Kilda Road, Melbourne currently houses the 'Art Deco 1910-1939' exhibition'. It runs until the 5th October. Full details here.
Last night, as we all know, being the 8th of the 8th 08, was the opening ceremony to the Beijing Olympics. Federation square saw many people crowding around the big screen to watch the spectacular. Many Chinese were in attendance and they had a great time. It was funny to hear one of the loudest cheers being saved for a sarcastic moan when the first advertisement was played during the broadcast! Let's hope the 8th August 2008 marks the start of some friendly games played in the true spirit of the Olympics. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oy! Oy! Oy!
Today in Australia we commemorate ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day, with parades and war memorial services held right through the country. In melbourne the parade leads up Swanston Street and ends at the Shrine of Rememberance. There was also a fly over, as I've shown here, I assume by the RAAF.

"Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt" Good Friday 21st March 2008
"Contempora" Sunday 9th March 2008
"Tryathlon 2008" Monday 25th February 2008
Today a photo from the Cadbury Easter Egg hunt held at Werribee Mansion this morning, Good Friday. Thousands of eggs are thrown over the grassed 'pens' (over several sessions according to age), and the children rush forward like a swarm of locusts and scoop them up into their bags. This shot is from the blue pen of the 11+ age group, one of the quickest egg collection sections! Proceeds go to the Royal Childrens hospital appeal.
A freshly opened exhibition spread over the public spaces down at Docklands is the "Contempora" sculpture exhibition. The exhibition runs from the 6th March through to the 20th April 2008. This piece is entitled "SHOCKED" and is by artist Gunther Kopietz, 2005. It is carved out of wood and is held together with steel and is finished off with paint. "My subjects are the ordinary occurances not the remarkable or the surprising".
The Sanitarium Weetbix Tryathlon for kids. Held yesterday, Sunday 24th February 2008, at the Catani gardens in St Kilda. Kids from 7 - 15 are invited to participate, and yesterdays event drew around 3000 participants. As the water was deemed too cold and rough, the water leg was cancelled, leaving the children to first ride and then run around the course. You can see my shot from the same event last year here on my events page.

Last Sunday 10th February, Melbourne celebrated the Chinese New Year. Festivities including Drgaon Boat races at docklands. These ladies were supporting Breast Cancer by all wearing pink, you can see how hard they were trying!
Day one of the Kia Australian Open today. The Rod Laver arena, Vodafone arena and many other outside courts were jam-packed today with huge numbers of people spending the day at the event. The tournament runs from today until the 27th January 2008 when the final is held. This shot shows Tommy Robredo stretching for the ball against tough opponent Mischa Zverev. Robredo finally won in five sets 4-6, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The AAMI Classic tennis tournament finished with two matches yesterday. First match was the play-off between Marat Safin (pictured here) and Fernando Gonzalez for third anf fourth placings. Another straight sets win and a third straight AAMI Classic tournament win for Andy Roddick who won 7-5, 6-3.
