Ever wonder how you can get from Victoria to Tasmania? Well you can swim (if you're Susie Maroney), catch a plane, or take this, the "Spirit of Tasmania'. This would be my preference as you get to take your car with you. Daily trips run from Station pier, Port Melbourne to Devenport, Tasmania, the trip taking most of the day (or night). There are 3 ships to my understanding which are fully identical, allowing one to be leaving Tasmania at the same time as one is leaving Victoria. Full information on the boats, fares and the like can be found at the official website here.
Well I gave you a little example on Friday with the kite surfer, today the entire landscape. If you look closely, you'll see the guy at the back has his board in the air. Again taken down at Altona Beach on a sufficiently windy day.
Rowing

"Red Patterns" Monday 16th October 2006

Looks like a good way to spend the afternoon, rowing down the Yarra River. There are many clubs which base themselves right in at the city where there are many private school rowing club houses.
View from Southbank across Princes Bridge towards Federation Square, St Paul's cathedral is on the left, the Yarra river is in the foreground.
Another shot taken at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens during it's opening of the new 'Australian Garden' earlier in the year. I hope to return over Summer and see how much larger all the plants are. This is just one section of the gardens which is representative of the red earth found in outback Australia, it's called the red sand garden. More information about the gardens can be found here.

Port Phillip Bay again, shot on the same day as last weeks 'landscape' image. The birds are almost like cartoon characters, watching as the man in the boat comes back in from a day out on the bay.
Saturday afternoon was a busy day out on Port Phillip Bay. This was at about half time during the AFL footy grand final. (Where West Coast beat Sydney by one point ..... last year it was the exact opposite, and one point is fairly rare). There was a blimp in the sky (which I will post on another day), helicopters, large container ships, small yachts, rowing boats and much more. This large ship had just passed under the Westgate Bridge and was heading out into the bay. The yacht was just packing up after the day out.
One lovely night last week when the sun was setting behind me, these lovely golden reflections appeared on the city. I rushed home to get the camera just in time, as the colours disappeared whilst I was shooting. Taken from Williamstown looking East across Port Phillip Bay.

View from the Shrine

"Williamstown" Monday 4th September 2006

We have a beautiful Shrine of Rememberance here in Melbourne which was designed to be viewed directly from St Kilda Road which runs into Elizabeth Street in the city. I may well post the Shrine itself on Wednesday, but today is the view back into the city from the Shrine. Taken last Monday at about 6:30pm. The Eureka tower sits on the left, straight ahead you can just make out the Victorian Arts Centre Spire where I took my "Doorways" shot (Other).

This shot, like my landscape posting on the 7th August, is from Princes Bridge. This shot, though, is on the other side of the bridge facing East. Here, we look down the Yarra river towards the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). This part of the river is where the fish ( see 'other') were lined up for the Commonwealth Games earlier this year. On the right are the public school boathouses, used for their rowers, on the left is Birrarung Marr parklands.

The beautiful view, just 5 mins walk from my house, from Williamstown across to the Westgate Bridge. The city of Melbourne is just out of the picture to the right. This bridge connects the Western Suburbs to the city and beyond, and is this tall to allow the large container ships to come directly into the city. I see this view nearly every day and never get sick of it.
