Where the wild things are

Pope's House

"Pope's House" Saturday 15th August 2009

Billboard for the new movie "Where the wild things are" which comes out in Australia on 3rd December this year. This is a good spot for the billboard, here in Williamstown, as much of the movie was filmed here. Other locations included Gembrook, Werribee Quarry, Flinders and the Melbourne Central City studios in the docklands precinct. My son was one of the picture doubles for Max in the movie and we got to see some amazing scenes. The character of Max is played by Max Records from America, the movie is directed by the wonderful Spike Jonze. (He also shot the music clip for Bjorks awesome "Oh so quiet" amongst much other great work.) The movie is based on the famous childrens book by Maurice Sendak. Lucky me, I'm off to the preview for "Where the wild things are" this Sunday!
Possibly Melbourne's oldest timber house. "Pope's house" (named after a previous owner William Pope) is found at 43 Aitken Street in Williamstown. It is today, very close to being sold. The house which possibly dates back to as early as 1842 is to be dismantled. Apparently a condition of the development is that all parts of the house are stored by the current/new owners. More information about the site can be found at the Heritage Victoria site here.
